comtes lafon meursault 1er cru genevrieres 2017
Reference: 11989Stock: 1 (stock immediately available)
Condition: bottle in perfect condition
"it all began with jules lafon at the end of the 19th century, who met and then married marie boch, who came from a family of owner-merchants in meursault. in 1931, he gave up all his duties at the dijon court of appeal to devote himself exclusively to the wine business. jules lafon then set about acquiring plots of vines on some of the best terroirs in meursault. goutte d'or, genevrières, perrières, but also in volnay and chassagne-montrachet. in particular, in 1918, he bought a wonderful plot in the grand cru montrachet. the latter was adjacent to another mythical vineyard, that of romanée-conti. a more chaotic period followed, marked by the premature death of pierre, one of the sons of jules and marie. then henri, their other son, wanted to sell the estate. it was not until the arrival of rené lafon (pierre's son) in 1956 that the estate found a new lease of life. rené set about restoring the lafon family's formidable winegrowing heritage, with the invaluable help of the sharecroppers who worked the family's vines at the time. today, dominique lafon is at the head of the estate and took over from his father in 1984. from 1987 onwards, he began to gradually break the sharecropping contracts. thus, since 1993, the 13.80 hectares of vines are fully exploited by the domaine. in 1992, he banned all synthetic products from his vineyards and began to work the soil. in 1995, he started the organic conversion of the estate, which was certified 3 years later in 1998. moreover, he conducted trials on several plots for 3 years. the results were obvious, there was a clear improvement in the condition of the vines, and dominique decided to adopt bio-dynamic practices for the entire estate. the 2017 meursault 1er cru genevrières wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, ripe lemons, wheat toast, hazelnut and white flowers. on the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with lovely purity and balance, a deep, tensile core and a reserved profile that will demand some bottle age"
