In 1973 the Marlborough vineyard was planted and operated on a commercial scale.
Located at the extreme north of the South Island of New Zealand, the Marlborough region is surrounded by a small mountain range and crossed by the Wairau River.
This plain, consisting mainly of alluvial soils, is now the cradle of wine production in New Zealand.
Thanks to a low rainfall, optimal sunshine in the vineyard, minimum risk of frost, a not very fertile and draining soil, the Marlborough region has ideal characteristics for the cultivation of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and especially Sauvignon Blanc. Marlborough is in fact the leading supplier of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with nearly 80% of the country's total harvest.
