Domaine Lamarche, in Vosne Romanée

The François Lamarche estate is located in the prestigious village of Vosne Romanée, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. It has 11.3 hectares of vineyards in nearly 10 appellations, and owns some exceptional Grand Cru parcels, including the Grand Cru Monopole La Grande Rue, a jewel of 1.65 hectares ideally situated right in the middle of two of the most prestigious parcels of the Domaine de la Romanée Conti and of the world: La Tâche and the famous Romanée Conti Since the sudden death of François Lamarche in 2013, the Lamarche estate has been managed by his daughter Nicole (who had already been vinifying the vintages since 2007), and by François Lamarche's wife. A switch from integrated to organic farming in 2010 has added a touch of elegance to the rather extensive range of Domaine Lamarche wines. The Grands Crus are four in number, and consist of La Grande Rue, Grands Echezeaux, Echezeaux and Clos Vougeot. A beautiful array of 4 superb 1er crus on Vosne Romanée: 1er cru Suchots, 1er cru Malconsorts, 1er cru Les Chaumes, and 1er cru la Croix Rameau. A 1er cru in Nuits Saint Georges: Les Cras. Few estates have such a wealth of vines. Finally, Lamarche also produces a Vosne Romanée Village, a Hautes Côtes de Nuits, a Bourgogne pinot noir, and a white wine (from a small 0.3 hectare plot of Bourgogne Aligoté).
The profile of the wines is rather elegant and fine, with a delicate and floral bouquet. Here, the grapes are double sorted before nearly 80% de-stemming, before being gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The maturing process can be marked, as it is based on a minimum of 60% new barrels. The whole team has a sumptuous heritage of vintages, and works to ensure that the best of the vine is found in the bottles produced, in a spirit of respect for the terroir. The wines are still at affordable prices, although the Grand Cru La Grande Rue, with its exceptional position, pulls all the wines upwards, due to its rather recent notoriety since the decree of this Grand Cru Monopole was only published in January 1992.
