Jean-François Ganevat, must of Jura
Jean-François Ganevat came back in 1998 in the Jura, in the Combe de Rotalier area, after long years in Chassagne-Montrachet.
Close to natural wine philosophy, without claiming it, the winegrower perfectly masters the biodynamic.
He has a very personal image on what should be a great wine: each parcel selection has a very particular personality, with variations of harmonies and pressures that reflect every terroir.
Thanks to the low yields and a hard labor in the vineyards, the reds, grown more and more in terracotta jars, now reach a remarkable level, and are as successful as the whites.
We can also talk about the yellow wine, and the incomparable “Les Vignes de mon Père”, which is a Savagnin grown for ten years.
The wines of the last vintages have never been so good, revealing the breathtaking quality a Jura can achieve.
The wines: Still in the making process, the 2018 reds transcribe all the generosity of the vintage. Wonderful evocation of sweet strawberries. The Poulsard lines the mouth with its gluttony; the pinot noir in Billat, imbued with sublime floral scents, lands on the palate with a graceful sweetness, truly winged. Raised for more than three years on the lees, without adding sulfur, the 2016 Chardonnays display stretched and patinated profiles. These exceptional raw materials of density and vigor offer completely Jura personalities.
