Alain Verset and the Cornas black wine
To the north-west of Valence, the village of Cornas is built in a grandiose amphitheater with steep steps. Its vineyard is located on a slope where granites emerge which, by decomposition, have given rise to clayey sands.
Cornas, like the Côte-Rôtie appellation, only produces red wines. However, it stands out among the great red appellations of the northern Rhône valley by its precocious terroir and by the presence of a unique grape variety, Syrah. The result is a “black wine”, of great structure, powerful and robust, whose tannins soften over the years.
Nephew of Noël Verset, the "legend of Cornas", Alain Verset operates a small estate that has remained very confidential until then. Informed amateurs appreciate it for the cornas it signs, rich but not heavy, aromatic and cut for aging.
