The Coteaux du Loir is an AOC in the Loire Valley whose production area extends over 16 communes in the department of Sarthe and 6 in Indre-et-Loire.
The Coteaux du Loir vineyard is planted on an area of about 80 hectares for an annual production of 2,700 hectoliters (30% in white wine). The vineyard rests on a soil of soft chalk of the Turonian, also called tuffeau, decomposed into flint clays giving sloping soils, difficult to work, but where the vine finds a favourable ground for its blooming. The Coteaux du Loir vineyard benefits from a temperate Touraine climate, with many microclimates.
The Coteaux du Loir appellation produces white wines made from Chenin blanc and generally have a crystalline golden yellow color, floral and fruity aromas punctuated by a mineral note. They are generally kept for more than 15 years.
