Located near Aix-en-Provence, a tiny vineyard of 23 hectares produces the Palette wines. Of these 23 hectares, an extremely small number of estates cultivate some 25 different grape varieties to produce exceptional wines. The estate covers part of the territory of the communes of Meyreuil and Tholonet as well as a small part of the commune of Aix-en-Provence. The appellation owes its name to the hamlet of Palette located in the center of a cirque of the same name, 4km east of Aix-en-Provence.
The terroir of the Palette appellation is located on the lake limestones of Langesse and Montaiguet. The Palette vineyard is only located on soils made uniform by limestone scree, on thin and stony skeletal soils. The predominantly northern exposure almost always imposes a late harvest.
Concerning the grape varieties for white wines, it is Clairette that offers the best results, complemented by other grape varieties common in the terroir. The average production of Palette is 1300 hectoliters of which about 40% is white wine.
