L'Hermitage is one of the greatest wines of France. Its vineyard dates back to the 4th century B.C.. Hermitage wine was served at the table of kings, notably that of Louis XIII.
It extends over 3 communes of the Drôme: Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage on the left bank of the Rhône. The soils of the Hermitage vineyard are made up of granitic arenas and covered with mica schists, but also with round pebble beaches. Sheltered from the north wind, most of the slopes are south-facing, thus benefiting from a very good amount of sunshine.
Approximately 134 hectares of vines have currently been put into production, for an annual volume of wine of nearly 4300 hectoliters. The Hermitage wines are made up of Roussanne and Marsanne for the white wines. The qualities of the appellation are excellently highlighted by houses such as M. Chapoutier, the house Delas frères, the estates E. Guigal, Jean-Louis Chave or Tardieu Laurent as well as the house Ferraton Père et Fils.
