On either side of the Tarn, about fifty kilometers north-east of Toulouse, the Gaillac vineyards extend over seventy-three communes. Its diversity of terroirs - first slopes, high slopes, plain - allows it to offer a wide range of wines.
The appellation also owes its originality to its local grape varieties, such as mauzac, ondenc, len de l'el or duras. Exposed to the south, on the first slopes of the right bank of the Tarn, the "first slopes" give round, elegant and long dry white wines, produced at low yields.
