Since 1990, the Hungarian vineyard has been divided into some 22 regions covering an area of 150,000 hectares with a production of about 4 million hectoliters.
Hungary is today the 14th largest wine producing country. It mainly produces white wines with spicy flavors. Grapes are harvested in November to allow the optimal development of noble rot. They are mainly made from Furmint and Harslevelu grapes and are not vinified immediately.
The Balton region is located on the southern shore of Lake Balaton and produces excellent white and sparkling wines on sandy soil.
