The Vinho Verde is first and foremost a region and an appellation where the lush vegetation and the terroir constitute a real little paradise for the vine. The Vinho Verde region is divided into 9 sub-regions. Only one of them has a really great reputation, that of Monção / Melgaço, totally in the north, along the Minho river on the border with Spain.
Portugal has never been famous for its dry white wines, but one wine has crossed the borders and is known worldwide, the vinho verde. It is a very lively wine on the palate and slightly sparkling, it develops a slightly lemony aroma that goes very well with the local cuisine.
The white vinho verde is above all a summer wine that goes very well with spicy dishes, seafood, fish, salads and cheese, or its lightness will also make it a very good aperitif wine under the sun.
