The Olifants River region is located in the southwestern part of the country. The Olifants is the main river in this region. Vines grow on the flat banks. The Olifants River region consists of 5 districts and zones (2 levels of wine region subdivision): the districts of Lutzville Valley, Citrusdal Mountain and Citrudal Valley as well as the zones of Koekenaap, Bamboes Bay and Piekenierskloof.
The soils in this region are limestone, alluvial and red sandy. The Olifants River's grape varieties are mainly white (chenin, pigeon, muscat d'alexandrie...) but also red (shiraz, pinotage...).
