The wines of Toro have a great tradition. Its origins predate the settlement of the Romans. In the 70s, the first steps were taken to create what in time would become the Toro Designation of Origin, whose culmination came in 1987.
At present, the Regulatory Council of the Toro Denomination of Origin guarantees the quality of 51 wineries.
Watered by the Duero River, the production area includes twelve municipalities in the province of Zamora and three in the Valladolid. Its sandy soils prevented the passage of phylloxera so there are many pre-phylloxera vineyards that give rise to wines of incredible quality and potential. This is why it has become one of the areas that the great wineries of our country have bet on the most.
The authorized grape varieties are: Verdejo and Malvasia Castilia. They are used for the elaboration of white wines.
