Crémant-de-bordeaux is a sparkling wine made according to the traditional method, elaborated according to the very strict rules common to all crémant appellations. Formerly called Bordeaux sparkling, this appellation follows a long tradition of sparkling wine making throughout the region.
The galleries dug into the hillsides on the banks of the Garonne, with a high humidity level and a low temperature range, providing optimal conditions for the foaming and maturing of the wines, were used for these purposes as early as the 19th century. The appellation area is delimited by the entire Bordeaux vineyard. The basic wines must be produced in the Bordeaux appellation and the grape varieties are those of the Bordeaux region. Generally white, with a well-melted acidity, the crémant-de-Bordeaux can also be rosé.
