It is difficult to determine the style of Brazilian wines. They are the image of this country, multicultural. This immense territory covers a multitude of soils and climates, which imbue the wines with their diversity. 90% of the production is concentrated in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, on the border of Argentina and Uruguay.
The most famous wines come from the mountainous region of Serra Gaúcha. It is also known for its famous Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot.
Even if the most widespread grape variety is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot is considered to be the one best adapted to Brazil, the great diversity of terroirs produces a wide range of red wines based on this variety. It is very interesting to compare these different profiles according to the regions. This is the recognized quality of these wines, especially in the Serra Gaúcha.
