The AOC Côtes de Duras extends over a surface area of 2,000 hectares in Aquitaine, covering 15 communes between Bergerac and Marmande. The region is made up of small hills with gentle slopes, on which the vineyards have settled, fleeing the excessive cold and humidity of the valley bottoms. A hundred kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, the climate, still oceanic, allows the vines to grow in a mild atmosphere, with sufficient sunshine in summer and autumn.
The red wines are made from four traditional grape varieties of Bordeaux's neighbor: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and to a lesser extent Malbec. They give especially on this soil full-bodied, fleshy, deep red wines with elegant aromas, like leather. One can also find lighter red Côtes de Duras, to be drunk young.
