This 1500 ha vineyard between Agen and Bordeaux occupies both banks of the Garonne around Marmande. It is thus made up of two very different geological regions:
On the right bank, a terroir of hillsides with clay-limestone soil, well exposed and well drained like the Entre-deux-Mers,
On the left bank, the land is composed of gravel mixed with marl and coarse sand with layers of clay rich in iron, the famous dirt that characterizes some of Bordeaux's great vineyards.
The cotes-du-marmandais appellation produces more than 90% of the red wines made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Malbec, fer-servadou and syrah, associated with gamay and abouriou, local grape varieties which, together with merlot, give the wines of the right bank their typical character, roundness and velvety smoothness.
The red Côtes du Marmandais are wines with a deep robe, ample, tannic and rather well-balanced, and recognizable by their slight spicy touch. They can be kept for 5 years or more in great vintages.
