If the Abruzzo region has some 30,000 hectares of vineyards, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is unquestionably its king grape variety! Of remarkable quality, it now represents almost 70% of the plantations, giving rise in particular to colorful Abruzzo red wines, with elegant aromas of red fruits and more pronounced notes of spices or liquorice.
The Abruzzo region, located in the center of Italy and bordering the Adriatic Sea, offers the vineyards particularly favorable natural conditions. The northern slopes of the province of Teramo, in particular, produce a robust red wine with a beautiful personality. In general, the Abruzzo region produces Italian red wines that are easy to drink, with rather soft tannins and can be easily combined with spicy dishes as well as with pasta or cooked meats.
