Sicily has one of the oldest vineyards in the world and its current dynamism is amazing. In terms of surface area, Sicily is one of Italy's largest wine-producing regions.
In the 1970s, its production reached ten million hectoliters! Fortunately, the island has broken with this productivist past. The famous La Planeta estate was the first to prove the quality of Sicilian vintages by selling Chardonnay and Merlot wines all over the world. Since then, the autochthonous grape varieties, including nero d'avola in red, have proved their value and have imposed themselves. The varied geology and climate give birth to typical wines.
