Montalcino, great red wines, offers its jewels, the Rosso DOC. The Rosso di Montalcino has the merit of having paved the way, even in Italy, for "cascade" appellations, where several wines with a single vineyard are produced with a single appellation of origin. In fact, farms have the possibility to choose, either during the harvest or during aging, whether the wine or grape will be destined to become Brunello, or whether it will be destined for the production or bottling of Rosso di Montalcino. A choice well exploited by producers considering that this DOC absorbs 40% of the production based on Sangiovese "grosso".
Sangiovese (100%) is the grape variety of Rosso di Montalcino. Since there is no maturation period in wooden barrels, Rosso di Montalcino can be marketed from September 1 of the year following the harvest.
