Located at only 30min from Auckland, Waiheke Island offers a superb setting to discover New Zealand wines. This 20km long island is part of the Auckland vineyard which is also found to the west of the city. A very small wine region, only 1% of the total wine production, but with a gem that represents the island of Waiheke. The iWaiheke island has a microclimate that differs from that of the city, rather dry and hot.
We will therefore find a majority of red grape varieties on the island with a particular emphasis on the Bordeaux type blends Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Cabernet Franc. We also find other grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Syrah and Pinot Gris.
