Andalusia has a thousand-year-old tradition of vine cultivation and the elaboration of wines of great prestige and renown throughout the world. The topography, geology and climate of the Andalusian soils are excellent for the cultivation of vines. The Mediterranean climate and the different microclimates, the very mild average temperatures, the very rare frosts and hail, the many hours of sunshine during the year, a strong contrast of altitudes and the cultivation system, are the origin of high quality wines, which are both very varied and very characteristic.
This trend towards prestige production has continued to this day. More than 70% of the Andalusian vineyards have one of the six denominations of controlled origin established and protected by their respective Denomination of Controlled Origin Councils. In addition to these designations, there are 16 geographical indications (vins de pays) as well as other historical wines without a designation but which enjoy great popularity, such as Tintilla de Rota, Pajarete and Muscat de Chipiona, Aljarafe must, etc.
