Côte Chalonnaise is located in the extension of the Côte-d'Or vineyards (Côte-de-Nuits and Côte-de-Beaune), and extends over a strip 40 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide, from Bouzeron in the north to Sercy in the south.
The Côte Chalonnaise vineyard is planted on gently sloping hillsides that benefit from a continental climate. Even if the Côte Chalonnaise is very much influenced by the culture of the Côte-de-Beaune, its wines still have their own expression. Their typicity is based in particular on the clay-limestone soils.
The Côte Chalonnaise produces white wines, their reputation is excellent. There are five appellations: Mercurey, famous for its Clos-du-Roy, Montagny which produces the famous Premier Cru Montcuchot, Givry which is the envy of its Clos-Saint Paul, Rully where Vauvry blossoms.
