Cigales is an appellation of the Castilla y León region that covers 2,700 hectares. Cigales is the smallest appellation in the region. The soil of Cigales consists of clay and marl as well as sand and gravel. The continental climate with an oceanic influence is marked by a long and harsh winter and a hot and dry summer. The harvest lasts from mid-September to early October.
The grape varieties at Cigales are Tempranillo, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot for the reds. The appellation Cigales is declined in the 3 colors, white, red, rosé as well as sparkling and sweet.
