Catalonia enjoys one of the most beautiful vineyards in Spain. This ancient vineyard has been rapidly modernized since the 1980's thanks to some visionary producers such as Miguel Torres or José Raventos. The wine industry has benefited greatly from the development of its capital, Barcelona, an attractive market and a major export port from which Catalan wines are shipped to the four corners of the world.
The vineyards run from the Pyrenees to the south of Tarragona, occupying the coastal areas and the relief of the inland cordillera. The red grape varieties largely dominate the vineyard: Grenache, Carignan, Tempranillo and Mourvèdre shape the character of the red wines of Catalonia in a style that favors maturity and roundness of the fruit.
