Empordà is a small Catalan appellation wedged between the Pyrenees to the north and the Mediterranean to the east. The vineyard occupies a vast plain, on poor, clayey-limestone and locally granitic soils on the coast. The climate is of Mediterranean type, with a strong influence of the tramontane.
Traditionally dominated by cooperatives, production has long been oriented towards sweet wines and rather rustic reds. A new generation of modern and dynamic bodegas are now renewing the style of Empordà wines, with an increasingly varied grape variety.
