The AOC Montagny is located in the southern part of the Côte Chalonnaise, on 310 hectares producing only white wines. This vineyard, the southernmost of this area, is installed on the steep slopes of the Bajocien rising up to 400 meters above sea level. The marl or marl-limestone soils of the lias and trias constitute a perfect terroir for the Chardonnay grape variety. In addition, the exposure is beneficial to the vines, which are oriented towards the east and southeast. 52 climates are entitled to Premier Cru status, including Le Vieux Château, Les Pindances, Les Coères, Les Burnins or Montcuchot, for the best known.
Some climates, producing very little juice, blend the wines together to form the Montagny Premier Cru appellation. These are whites that are sometimes a little austere in their youth, but which gain in strength after a few years.
