disappeared in june 2019, andré lurton was a figure in bordeaux and one of the main architects of the creation in 1987 of the pessac-léognan appellation. he acquired la louvière in 1965 and constantly promoted this popular, accessible and regular vintage. the program of modernization and improvement of work in the vineyard continues under the leadership of jacques lurton, who also breathes new life into the cellar, with aging now giving a large place to terracotta jars. consistently excellent as well as a reasonably good value, la louviere’s 2001 possesses a deep plum/purple color in addition to soft, flavorful notes of cedar, smoked herbs, cherries, and black currants. medium-bodied, elegant, and pure, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.
