Mas Igneus Barranc del Closos 1998 is a Spanish red wine produced in the Priorat region, in the province of Tarragona in Catalonia. The Mas Igneus estate is located in Poboleda, in the heart of the Priorat wine region. Mas Igneus is a family-run winery that was founded in 1996 by Josep Maria Albet i Noya and his son Albert. The estate is located at an altitude of about 400 metres, on schist soils, known as "licorella", which are characteristic of the Priorat wine region. The estate has been certified organic since 1998 and follows sustainable farming practices to protect the environment and produce high quality grapes. The 1998 vintage is considered one of the best in the Priorat region. The weather conditions were ideal that year, with a long and steady growing season that allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and develop complex flavours. The wine is made from 60% Grenache, 30% Carignan and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, which were fermented together and aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. The 1998 Mas Igneus Barranc del Closos is a deep dark red colour with purple highlights. The nose is complex and intense, with aromas of ripe red fruit, plum, fig, cocoa, vanilla and coffee, as well as spicy notes of black pepper, clove and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is rich, powerful and well-balanced, with firm but supple tannins, lively acidity and a long, lingering finish. Mas Igneus Barranc del Closos 1998 is a wine for ageing that can be kept for several more years under optimal temperature and humidity conditions. It is recommended to decant it before serving to release all its complex aromas and flavours. This wine goes perfectly with grilled red meat, spicy dishes and strong cheeses.
