since 1870, when the viña errázuriz was created in the aconcagua valley by don maximiano errázuriz, the chadwick family has produced great chilean wines with excellence. viñedo chadwick, a winery located in puente alto d.o. in the maipo valley, honors the memory of a passionate and visionary man: don alfonso chadwick errázuriz, father of eduardo chadwick. founder of the first wine brokerage house in chile in the early 1930s, alfonso chadwick errázuriz has the ambition to develop the reputation of chilean wines beyond borders, in particular by modernizing winemaking techniques. in 1942 he acquired nearly 300 hectares of fields and vineyards and then, in 1983, took over the management of viña errázuriz. passionate about wine, don alfonso chadwick errázuriz is also passionate about sport. recognized as one of the best polo players in the history of chile, he erected his own polo field on the family property. today, two posts are still visible on this land, which has become one of the most beautiful plots of the estate. his son, eduardo, joined the estate and perpetuated, since the death of his father in 1993, the quest for excellence and the family passion for the production of great central valley wines. viñedo chadwick watches over a 15-hectare vineyard whose wines produced in limited quantities are internationally recognized for their refinement and freshness. viñedo chadwick 2016 is a blend of 97% cabernet sauvignon and 3% petit verdot from maipo alto that spent 22 months in french barrels, 80% new and 10% in casks. this was a cold year, making for the ideal ripeness. the delicate, seductive nose combines raspberry with young blackcurrant, herb and mint. well-balanced, it presents a smooth texture and a powerful juicy flavor on the tongue with just a hint of pyrazine that underlines the smoky finish.
