"the vineyard of pichon longueville baron extends over beautiful garonne gravelands south of the appellation, on the high plateau that serves as a transition between the commune of pauillac and that of saint-julien. planted with vines since the end of the 17th century, it has enjoyed an almost immediate fame. produced under the leadership of jacques de pichon, baron de longueville, the quality of the wines followed those of latour at the beginning of the 18th century. classified second cru in 1855, the estate is divided by a succession and the wines vinified separately from 1860: raoul, the only surviving son of baron joseph, then takes the head of the current pichon longueville baron, often nicknamed «pichon baron», while his daughter virginie, wife of the comte de lalande, received the other part of the property, hence the ending: «comtesse de lalande». the house, inspired by the château d'azay le rideau, was built in 1851 by raoul. the estate remained the property of the pichon until 1933, when it was sold to the bouteiller family. it was administered by their descendants for the next fifty years, and it was a beautiful sleeping bag that axa millésimes acquired in 1987. a major renovation program of the castle, cellars and technical facilities of pichon-longueville was then undertaken. the grapes are hand-picked and completely destalled. the wines of this area are now among the most famous in pauillac. the tourelles de longueville, formerly second wine became a special vintage. the great wine of pichon longueville baron has established itself in a few years as one of the best wines of pauillac. full and concentrated, it has a unique tannin grain that makes it absolutely delicious. indeed, like the greatest wines of the appellation, it succeeds perfectly in marrying the opposites: power and finesse. it is a wine to taste after 10 to 30 years of storage.
