"it is established on the silico-calcareous rumps overlooking the cool valley of ""l'eau-blanche"", which crosses the town of léognan. it is on a vineyard in poor condition that the perrin family, already owner of vines in algeria, set its sights in the 1950s. ravaged by phylloxera at the end of the 19th century, the estate suffered from a chronic crisis of over-production that would affect the entire french vineyard until the end of the 1960s. uninhabited since the first world war, the buildings are dilapidated. in addition, the winter following the buyback (1956) was one of the coldest in the century, with temperatures approaching -20°! during the classification of graves wines in 1959, the castle was classified in red and white. it is one of the 6 castles to be classified in both colors. formidable visionary, he carries the vintage to its highest level, in red as in white. he also acquired other domains of the appellation: le sartre, tour-léognan, bois-martin, lafon-menaut and haut-vigneu. respected by his peers, he participated in the creation of the pessac-léognan appellation in 1987. since his death in 2008, the succession is insured by his two sons. château la tour léognan, a vineyard next to carbonnieux, was bought at the same time by the perrin family and was the second wine on the property before the creation of the croix de carbonnieux. it is now the third wine. carbonnieux classified in both colors has the particularity of having a vineyard equitably distributed between red and white grape varieties. the latter progressed enormously under the advice of denis dubourdieu. he develops aromas of citrus and white flowers on the nose. in the mouth, it has a very nice fat, tensed by a refreshing acidity. carbonnieux whites are usually to drink after 3 to 8 years of aging. but the larger vintages age remarkably well."
