michel guillemot charleston 2017
Reference: 10455Stock: 2 (stock immediately available)
Condition: bottle in perfect condition
the guillemot family's oldest parcel of vines dates back to 1918, and the idea behind this cuvée is to work the vines and make the wine in the same way as their grandfather—who planted them—did. it spends a year in old demi-muids followed by six months in tank on the lees. unfurling in the glass with aromas of honeycomb, yellow orchard fruit, almond paste and mirabelle plum, the 2017 viré-clessé charleston is medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, with considerable structuring dry extract, lively acids and a long, sapid finish. gautier roussille tells me that these vines were planted on the first american rootstocks used in the area, and that they tend to show less vintage variation than the domaine's younger plantings. life is too short to drink bad wines.
