"at the end of the 80s, eric nicolas, who had always been caught up in a passion for wine, embarked on oenology studies in montpellier. after an experience at château pibarnon in provence, they settled in the heart of the sarthe, conquered by this abandoned wine region but with great potential. it was in 1995 that christine and eric nicolas took over an old farm in order to rehabilitate it in winegrowing. together they create the domain of bellivière on 5.5 hectares of vineyards located on the coteaux du loir appellation area. today, christine and eric nicolas work on 17 hectares after having extended their estate with vineyards located around jasnières. their son clément joined them at the domaine de bellivière in 2015, together they give a new impetus to this region too little known with a philosophy close to the vine, the living and their terroirs worked in biodynamic. the nicolas family has always been guided by a philosophy respectful of life. since 2005, it is quite natural that the bellivière estate is moving towards organic farming for its vineyard located along the banks of the loir and its tributaries. in order to go further in this approach, christine and eric nicolas pass the entire domain in biodynamic, labeled demeter in 2011. here, two grape varieties are king: chenin for white wines and pineau d'aunis for reds. at the winery, the vinifications are sweet and in a natural approach to respect and distinguish the terroir. the result is amazing mastery with sincere wines that can go through decades."
