"the origins of château mont-redon date back to the 14th century, when it belonged to the domaine episcopal. taken over in the 17th century by the aristocrat joseph ignace d'astier, it passed into the hands of henri plantin in 1923. the latter gathers the scattered land and undertakes to plant vines on the vast rocky plateau, wooded, still unexploited, which dominates the property. his descendants took up the torch and made a contribution. in search of the most suitable grape varieties for this exceptional terroir, they take the opportunity to expand the domain. this has been going on for four generations now, and today the château mont-redon counts no less than 186 hectares in châteauneuf-du-pape. the farm also has two other estates: one in côtes-du-rhône and the other in lirac. the appellation area is located on the left bank of the rhône, between orange and avignon, and is defined by soils composed of large rolled pebbles that store the heat of the sun to restore it during the night. the vines sink their roots there, which draw their water needs from the deep clay banks. they are sanitized by the mistral which blows strong and avoids any harmful humidity. the harvests are manual and the berries are sorted with care. the winery makes wine by dipping for almost 20 days. thus, tannins and dyes are extracted to the maximum. once the malolactic fermentation is done, the ageing begins (part in burgundy pieces of 228l and the other part in tanks). the wines are then carefully selected and assembled before being bottled and resting almost 6 months at the estate before being marketed. the chateauneuf-du-pape of château mont-redon can be drunk young, on the fruit, but reaches its fullness after 8 years."
