located in volnay, the henri boillot estate has made a specialty of puligny-montrachet, the soul of the great white wines of the côte d'or. on 15 hectares, in the southern part of the côte de beaune, this discreet but renowned estate, well known to fine wine connoisseurs, has been making and maturing for several generations (1885 to be precise) a remarkable range of prestigious wines on the greatest terroirs. its grand crus of the côte de beaune in particular, racy, vigorous and masterfully harmonious, are among the greatest white wines of burgundy and have established its reputation. seven hectares of puligny-montrachet premier cru (les perrières, les pucelles, clos de la mouchère), meursault premier cru les genevrières and savigny-les-beaune premier cru les vergelesses. as for the red wines, the estate has parcels classified as beaune premier cru (clos du roi, les épenottes), volnay premier cru (les chevrets, les fremiets, les caillerets, clos de la rougeotte) and savigny-les-beaune premier cru les lavières. today it is his son henri who has taken over the reins of the family vineyard, to which he added in 1996 a trading activity, exclusively for whites, and in which each premier cru or grand cru is produced by a single supplier in order to preserve the authenticity of the terroir. his great talent as a winemaker enables him to offer superb white wines, generally early, but which improve over four to five years. what a great nose. red fruit with a touch of black fruit, and a savoury soy/spice note. oak present and quite dominant still in what i'd say is a pretty delicate wine. very well balanced, red fruit and spice. drying tannins.
