"located on the northern slopes of the alpilles, between avignon and arles, near st rémy de provence, the trévallon estate was acquired in 1955 by rené dürrbach, father of the current owner. in 1973, at the age of 23, his son, eloi dürrbach, then studying architecture in paris, decided to settle in one of the farmhouses, the one in trévallon, and create a vineyard by dynamiting part of the hills surrounding the estate. the vines are cultivated in a natural and traditional way without insecticide, fertilizers or chemical herbicides. for the production of red wines, eloï durbach has chosen a 50-50 split between cabernet-sauvignon and syrah. this decision led to a refusal by inao to approve its wine in aoc baux de provence when the appellation was created in 1993. at issue is cabernet sauvignon, which is too strongly represented in the assembly. yet it is he who gives the wine a special character: on the terroir of the alpilles, it brings spicy notes, with aromas of cinnamon and pepper. syrah gives the wine its mellowness and a silky, captivating character. this wine is made from a blend of syrah and cabernet sauvignon in equal parts. an originality for the appellation that led to eloi dürrbach’s refusal by inao to approve his wine in aoc baux de provence because cabernet sauvignon was considered too strongly represented in the assembly. it is therefore important to note that for the 1983, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991 vintages, this wine was classified as coteaux-d'aix-en-provence; from 1994 to 2008 in vdp bouches-du-rhône, and finally, since 2009, in igp alpilles. the nose reveals all the intensity of this great wine, and opens with aromas of cherry cherry and raspberry as well as cocoa notes. the attack is frank and we find the same aromas as on the nose. the tannins are silky and fine."
