The AOC Arbois wines was recognized by a decree of May 15, 1936 and was thus the first French AOC to date. The production area of Arbois white wines is located within the communes of Abergement-le-Grand, Arbois, Les Arsures, Mathenay, Mesnay, Molamboz, Montigny-lès-Arsures, Les Planches-près-Arbois, Pupillin, Saint-Cyr-Montmalin, Vadans and Villette-lès-Arbois in the Jura department.
In a tormented relief with limestone scree, the soil of the Arbois wines is composed of very deep iridescent marls, clayey-siliceous and compact. With 843 hectares of production, it is the most important and best known appellation of the Jura. Domaine Stéphane Tissot offers without doubt the most beautiful vintages of the Arbois appellation.
The AOC produces very dry white wines that are fresh in the mouth and evoke yellow wine. The five grape varieties authorized in the Jura can indeed claim the AOC Arbois, namely the Poulsard already mentioned as well as Chardonnay, Savagnin, Pinot Noir and Trousseau..
