The Jurançon vineyard is located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques around Jurançon and Monein near Pau. The Jurançon appellation concerns a total of 25 communes which benefit from AOC classification.
The total cultivated area of the Jurançon appellation is around 1,000 hectares. The plots of vines are on hillsides, facing south-south-east, sheltered from the prevailing winds. The climate is oceanic, but also subject to the influences of the nearby mountains and to the benefits of the southern heat, allowing the use of the overmaturation technique necessary for the elaboration of great sweet wines. The quality of Jurançon wines is perfectly found in the vintages offered by Domaine de Souch, Domaine Vignan La Juscle or Domaine de Cauhapé.
The grape varieties used for Jurançon wines are Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Courbu, Camaralet and Lauzet. They are used to elaborate the sweet and dry wines of the Jurançon appellation, with an annual production of about 30,000 hectoliters, 60% of which is made up of the latter.
