Champagne, also called Champagne wine, is a French sparkling wine protected by an appellation d'origine contrôlée whose regulation required several centuries of gestation. The geographical delimitation, the grape varieties, the yields and the whole elaboration of champagne are the main specificities of the appellation.
Champagne is essentially made from three grape varieties: Pinot noir, Meunier and Chardonnay Blanc. The Champagne vineyard produces mainly sparkling white wines, with a wide range of cuvées, vintages and bottles.
Champagne is a drink that has become synonymous with festivities and celebrations. It enjoys a prestige recognized worldwide, thanks to the very active protection and defense of the appellation, notably by the CIVC (Comité interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne).
