Cataluna is a denomination of origin of the autonomous region of Catalonia, Spain. It is the historical denomination of the region, which extends over approximately 330 municipalities, along with ten other denominations, including the famous DO Cava. The DO Cataluna, like the other denominations, authorizes a very wide range of grape varieties.
The region of Catalonia, with a very contrasted relief, benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with however great disparities allowing the elaboration of wines with very different characters.
The DO Cataluna produces red wines often made from Grenache, Monastrelle and Syrah grapes, but also from Merlot, Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon. DO Cataluna wines are generally fruity and harmonious, very typical of their terroir.
