The Priorat D.O.C. appellation is located in Catalonia - Spain. In a magnificent and wild place, in stony and sometimes shallow soils, rich in reflecting schist and quartz, the work of the Priorat grape varieties, whose main town is Tarragona, reveals an extreme finesse due mainly to the Grenache and Carignan.
In this region, very hot in summer and cold in winter, the vineyards are located at different altitudes between 300m and 1,000m, which creates many microclimates with a rich potential. The most common grape variety is Carignan which develops all its particularities in the different terroirs of slate schist, we find Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet-Sauvignon which tends to disappear in favor of Carignan, indeed the latter grows in its environment of predilection the schist.
The red wines are on the whole structured with a beautiful harmony, remanence and minerality, the backbone is the Carignan with different expressions according to the terroirs, the altitude, the exposure and of course the hand of the winemaker. The new generation of winegrowers is very respectful of the terroir and the environment, most of them work in organic and biodynamic farming. The vines are ploughed with mules or horses.
