The Ribeira Sacra was created in 1997 and covers an area of more than 1,500 hectares dedicated to vineyards, which represents more than 5% of the total Galician soil destined for wine production. The Ribeira Sacra is divided into five growing sub-areas: Chantada, Ribeira do Miño, Amandi, Ribeira do Sil and Quiroga Bibei.
The mencía, brecellao and merenzao grape varieties stand out for the elaboration of red wines. These are basically young wines, although wines for ageing are also produced.
The Ribeira Sacra is a true paradise for wine lovers. It is possible to make guided tours to wine cellars, carry out tastings and learn more about the production of the wines.
