The Montrachet appellation covers a total area of just under 8 hectares. Montrachet is located only between the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. Montrachet is one of the 5 "Grand Cru" appellations of the Côte de Beaune, sharing this title with Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtards-Montrachet.
The plots of the Montrachet appellation are located at mid-slope, on fairly steep slopes with thin soils mainly composed of hard limestone and reddish marls. The highly reputed white wines of Montrachet combine a formidable structure and perfect harmony, offering characteristic notes of pastries, butter and honey.
