founded in 1638, the château is one of the oldest medoc properties and became very successful in the middle of the 18th century, thanks to the innovation and enlargement projects of the owner blaise-alexandre de gasq. the french revolution marked its confiscation and division into three properties (léoville las cases, léoville barton and léoville-poyferré) which were classified as second growths in 1855. over time, the property changed hands and evolved. today, it has 97 hectares of gravelly soil planted with vines that are an average of 30 years old. léoville las cases produces a wine of incredible complexity. for quality reasons, a large part of the production is systematically downgraded (up to 67% in the 1990 vintage). of a great regularity, the wines reach perfection in most of the great vintages. deeply colored, tannic, ample and concentrated, they have a great potential for aging. great wines.
