the louis-claude desvignes estate, located in villié-morgon, has been run since 2002 by claude-emmanuelle desvignes and her brother louis-benoît, who represent the eighth generation of winemakers in the family. the vineyard includes 13 hectares of vines spread over douby, and the côte du py, with vines that are about 60 years old. each terroir is vinified separately in order to deliver the best typicity and the maturation is long. the domain produces beautiful morgons of terroir and ageing potential. an estate that is unquestionably among the best in the beaujolais. a small parcel of 0.57 hectares of 90 year old vines is at the origin of this new cuvée parcel of louis-claude desvignes. located at the foot of the côte du py, on a deep and rich terroir of clay, schist and pirite, the plot called "aux pierres" stretches out on a gentle slope and benefits from an eastern exposure. since 2005, the vines are managed organically, in the process of certification, and the soils are ploughed and grassed. all the work in the vineyard is done by hand, and in the cellar the approach is as natural as possible. the grapes are sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar, then vinified in whole bunches for about ten days. at the desvignes estate, no wood is used, the wine is aged exclusively in concrete eggs of 30 hl and lasts about ten months. the old vines, resulting from massal selection and with low yields, produce a dense, deep wine with an assertive structure that summons black and red fruits, orange zest and spices. velvety, balanced by a controlled acidity, it shows a beautiful persistence. a morgon made for ageing, certainly.
