"at the beginning of the 20th century, etienne camuzet, a winegrower in vosne romanée and member of parliament for the côte-d'or, decided to expand his estate and made a very selective choice among the plots he gradually acquired. he will be the last owner of the clos de vougeot, before its transfer to the brotherhood of tastevin. his daughter maria noirot bequeathed him to jean méo, father of jean-nicolas, at the helm since 1989. the objective of the estate is to make wines that combine structure and finesse, concentration and charm. it was with the help of henri jayer, wine and livestock advisor, that a number of practices were implemented to achieve this goal: a strict limitation of yields with green harvests that are practiced systematically even in older vines. the méo-camuzet estate continues to exploit the mythical premier cru cros parantoux in vosne-romanée with emmanuel rouget, jayer’s ultimate legacy. at harvest, a new selection is made on sorting mat, the grapes are then scraped 100%. the wines are aged in new oak barrels to ensure optimum aging. bottling occurs after an average of 17 months of cask. the wines are bottled by gravity, without filtration and, with exception, without gluing. thus, they do not suffer trauma that could distort them. this is one of the largest burgundian estates. the clos-de-vougeot is characterized by a bouquet with exceptional aromatic intensity, where concentrated perfumes of red and black fruits, undergrowth, violet and, with age, fur are mixed." the 2020 clos de vougeot grand cru is very promising, unfurling in the glass with aromas of wild berries, cherries, orange rind, potpourri and loamy soil. full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's seamless and complete, with superb depth at the core and a long, resonant finish. it will be fascinating to compare with the 2019 rendition in two decades' time.
