The AOC Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine comes from the AOC Muscadet. The vineyard, south-east of Nantes, extends over 23 communes and is watered by two rivers, the Sèvre Nantaise and the Petite Maine, which have given it their names. With a surface area of 8,350 hectares and a yield of 55hl/ha, the annual production of this dry white wine reaches approximately 470,000 hl.
The soils are composed of metamorphic rocks, gneiss, micaschists, and green rocks. The clean soil of the Sèvre-et-Maine terroir brings more finesse to the juice thanks to the presence of crystalline rocks. The location in relation to the coastline and other wetlands nuances the quality according to the rates of rainfall, unevenly distributed from one end of the vineyard to the other. For a beautiful structure, the grapes are selected and picked on late-ripening terroirs.
The robe of Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine is pale gold with beautiful silvery reflections, and its aromas develop with a slow fermentation and at room temperature (20°C). The ageing on fine lees lasts at least 6 months and gives the wine roundness, fatness, freshness and persistence. The Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine can be enjoyed fresh and draws its personality from the aromas of pear and peach, with notes of candied citrus.
