Located south of Bonn, with a classification that is both simple and complex, the German vineyard is divided into 11 wine regions or Anbaugeviet, then into 35 Bereiche, 152 Grosslagen and 2,600 Einzellagen.
For a better understanding, we must remember two major groups, one to the east and the other to the west of the Rhine, and above all five major entities that are both very different and complementary, with the way in which the grapes are harvested and the way in which the vintages are aged taking precedence over the very notion of appellation.
Germany produces excellent wines, especially whites in an area where we might think that the vine would no longer be able to flourish properly. Also, German wines are focused on longevity. The white wines produced can often be kept for more than a decade, generally thanks to good acidity. With a low alcohol content, these wines are well-balanced. Riesling is the reference point in this respect. When taken care of, this grape variety reveals its best, and this care allows us to have semi-aged wines that improve over time and allow us to discover aromas and tastes that are too little present in French wines.
