for over 40 years, the dönnhoff estate has been offering a superb range of white wines crafted in the heart of the nahe on 25 hectares. overlooking the valley, this german wine region has brought to its peak the riesling which reigns supreme over a magnificent but inhospitable landscape of green valleys, in a cool and humid climate where the soil mixes schist and volcanic rock. helmut dönnhoff and his son cornelius brilliantly craft rieslings of superb quality. both of them take advantage of the flexibility of this grape variety, which adapts perfectly to the diversity of the region's terroirs, provided that its purity is preserved. the philosophy of the domain consists in mixing tradition and modernity for the breeding (stainless steel tanks and german oak barrels). it's quite simple, the dönhoff domain realizes a real work of goldsmith! in the category qualitätswein mit prädikat (qmp-appellation of superior quality), there are 6 levels corresponding to the degree of ripeness of the grapes (and thus degree of sweetness). kabinett is dry, light, and well-balanced fresh. the spätlese is a late harvest and therefore more intense and sweeter. the auslese is an even later harvest that gives a mellow wine that needs to be kept in the bottle for a few years. the beerenauslese is made from a selection of noble grapes that have been botrytized. the trockenbeerenauslese (tba) is a late selection of botrytized noble grapes passerillé on the stump. the last level is the eiswein, known as ice wine, which is harvested at the beginning of the winter. donnhoff riesling kabinett kreuznacher krotenpfulh 2020 is a dry wine but with a superb softness and tenderness. pale yellow colour. the nose is beautiful but without excess on white fruits with an underlying mineral side. the palate is racy, elegant with a residual sweetness well balanced by a mineral freshness.
